When Lee Cary inherits his father's ranch, he thinks his days of reckless bachelor living have finally found the perfect pad... What Cary (Keir Dullea) didn't count on was a clause in the will that stipulated the ranch will be run by a longtime friend of his father's, Will Lane (Buddy Ebsen), until the youth mends his wild ways. The two can't seem to find a single patch of common ground, but when Will sends for a mail order bride (Lois Nettleton) for Cary it looks as though the woman may be able to tame the wild young man.
