Together, the dragon and the phoenix symbolize the union of masculine and feminine forces in the Universe. Thiva Boonnak is inspired by Chinese mystical traditions usually found in ancient royal motifs and in wedding decorations. Between the two mythical beings, the sun is emblazoned with the Fu, Lu, Shou characters which, according to Taoist beliefs, stand for good fortune, prosperity and longevity, respectively. Working with repousse techniques, Boonnak crafts the images with vivid detail in aluminum. They are set against a crimson velvet background and framed in rain tree wood.
