Lewis Carroll doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is going to bother with last names. Or wait, what if in Wonderland is her last name?! That would be pretty meta. And that's exactly the kind of weird little easter egg that Lewis Carroll would love for us to discover one hundred and fifty years later (You didn't know Alice in Wonderland was that old, did you? We didn't either! It's so zany and off the wall that it still feels fresh, even today. Kind of weird, right? Really makes you think.). Alright, so Miss In Wonderland is pretty great. Don't believe us? Here's why:Because Alice is quintessentially good. Most of the excitement from her story comes from the other characters. You've got the Cheshire Cat, who is completely unpredictable and mischievous, and then you've got the Queen of Hearts, who is an incredibly unhinged person to have in a position of power. And then there's that White Rabbit, so stuffy and proper and always pressed for time. But Alice? Alice is the heart and soul of the story. She alone is pure and stands up for whats right and defends people from having their heads lopped off. She alone talks back to the queen, even when it's dangerous, or even when she's trying to be proper. Maybe it's possible that Lewis Carroll viewed Alice as exactly what we need in a world gone mad: someone to be pure and genuine and righteous. And he succeeded. Now who wouldn't want to dress up as such an amazing woman? We know we would. |
