Robert Nortey creates the original design of the Ahoufe to personify his idea of Beauty, as it is said in the Twi dialect of the Akan people. Nortey carves the sese wood mask by hand featuring half-open eyes with eyelashes. She wears a tall and ornate headdress detailed in aluminum and brass, as well as on her cheeks. Painted green, her pouting lips are detailed in fiery red.
