The noble expression of this mask bears parallel lines on the cheeks known as donkor, meaning don't go. If a woman continues to lose her newborns, the Akan believe it is the act of an evil spirit. Marks are made on the face of the next child born and if he dies and another is born, this new child is checked for such marks. If found, it is taken to mean death doesn't want this child, and has thus sent him back. Abdul Razak creates the original design of this mask, which he carves by hand of sese wood and refers to it as Abrantie, the Akan term for Gentleman. The mask can be displayed on the wall or on a tabletop.
