A mask of solemn expression, it is inspired by the mena image used in the royal courts of the Akan people of Aburi (Ghana). According to ancient traditions, the chief would send the linguist bearing the mena to call upon those who were accused of ill-doing. The mena signified that a person had received a royal summons to the palace. Victor Addo Biney hand carves a sese wood mask of exceptional beauty and artistry.
