He's in the army now! Heartthrob Renaldo Rossano (Mario Lanza), charismatic star of the New York Grand Opera, is drafted and music fans everywhere mourn. But one fan is delighted: Renaldo's top kick (James Whitmore), an opera buff who wants the new recruit's autograph. And his help. You see, the sarge has a sister (Doretta Morrow) who sings, and she could sure use a break. When the sister turns out to be beautiful as well as talented, everything's in place for romance, fun, and lots and lots of magnificent music. Lanza's fourth film, his first after the megahit The Great Caruso, finds the tenor in top form, whether he's singing a moving rendition of the Lord's Prayer, commanding the stage in scenes from Cavalleria Rusticana or crooning the 1952 Best Song Oscar nominee title tune. Atten-hut, Lanza fans! |
