Seemingly non-figurative, this enigmatic painting expresses a heartfelt longing. To the left, a woman closes her eyes; her features evoke traditional West African masks. To the right, she appears again with a baby nursing at her breast. This painting is to give hope to those whose situation seems hopeless, and to encourage them as they look upon it. Whatever they desire, they will surely have it, says Ghanaian artist Ishmael Ofosu Legrand-Sawyer.
