This detailed batik on cotton painting recounts the section of the ancient Ramayana where the evil ogre king Rawhana hatches his plan to capture the beautiful princess Sita. Rawhana dispatches his soldier Marica, disguised as a beautiful golden deer, to appear before Sita. She is entranced by the deer's beauty, and asks her beloved prince Rama to pursue and hunt the animal. Sujana elaborates the piece using traditional batik methods, first etching the scene in pencil and then using hot wax and dyes to provide the authentic Balinese color.
