The Archangel Gabriel was chosen by the Lord to announce to the Virgin Mary, and through her to all mankind, the great joy of the Incarnation of the Son of God. Therefore, on the day following the Annunciation, on which the most-pure Virgin is glorified, Catholics thank God and honor His messenger, who performed service in the mystery of their salvation. St. Gabriel is the patron of communications workers, and his feast day is September 29th. This oil on canvas by Edgar Aguirre Gomez is painted in the magnificent style of the Cuzco School, reminiscent of the Renaissance painters of religious scenes. Titled Arcángel Gabriel, guerrero II in Spanish.
