Rich crimson reveals an outline beneath delicate lotus buds. Parinya Nanjai depicts the Buddhapada, or footprint of Buddha. Beautifully stylized with intricately patterned symmetry, this is a schematized design. When Buddha stepped back onto earth after reaching enlightenment, his feet made an imprint where he stepped, the first and most honored of these imprints being the supposed print atop Adam's Peak in Ceylon. These footprints are venerated in all Buddhist countries. The painting arrives in a frame of bamboo and teakwood.
