Daughters of the nymph Harmonia, the Amazons of Greek mythology were Scythian warrior women. Their name derives from Amazon Island in the Back Sea, first described in The Argonauts by Apollonius of Rhodes. Invoking their presence, Theus depicts them as ghostly silhouettes amid surging blue waters, colorful petals and bright croton leaves. The Peruvian artist works in luminous oils on canvas. Titled Amazonas in Spanish.
