According to Hindu lore, Durga is one of the manifestations of Parwati, Lord Shiva's wife. Goddess Durga is the mother of the universe and she is believed to be the power behind the work of creation, preservation and destruction of the world. Hindus believe goddess Durga protects her devotees from evils and removes their miseries. In this painting, the golden color symbolizes solar deities and attraction whereas red signifies power. Orange represents fire and impurities are burnt by fire. This color also symbolizes purity, says the Indian artist of her original composition.
