Three people play the drum while a palm wine seller places her hand in the wine jar. Enveloped in emerald splendor, they inhabit a painting by Prince Dewodo. I once witnessed this scene in the Northern Region of Ghana where the palm wine seller engages her customers in a conversation while they sip their wine amidst laughter. Some of the customers also entertain themselves with playing the drums and singing. The place gets lively and more palm wine is ordered. The more they take in the palm wine, the louder their conversations and laughter, and also the intensity in the drumming and singing, the artist reminisces.
