The historic paintings in Cacaxtla (Tlaxcala) inspire Angel CerĂ³n in the crafting of this sculpture of an eagle warrior. Believed to channel the courage and might of the eagle, the warrior was highly revered by the Tlaxcalteca people of 600-950 A.D. The sculpture portrays the warrior wearing the eagle's talons on the feet, and the head as a fabulous headdress. He holds a ceremonial staff with serpent heads related to Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent deity. Working with yellow clay ceramic, CerĂ³n creates a rugged sculpture of infinite details.
