This is a replica of the Protector mask, said to bring good luck, says Abubakari Alhassan as he explains the customs of the Bakota people from Congo. It is believed to protect the people from the household it guards. The sculpture is carved from sese wood and is decorated with embossed aluminum and hand-painted motifs featuring the kite patterns at the base that identify the art of this Congolese tribe.
