Winfred Korley finds inspiration in the customs and beliefs of Ghana's Fante people for the design of this antiqued fertility doll. Expertly carved by hand from sese wood, the sculpture is adorned with beaded earrings and necklace. The fetish priest gives this doll to a couple trying to conceive. Then the woman must carry it with her at all times. The bristles on the top are meant to protect against evil, explains the master carver.
