This nativity scene by Jose Canil Ramos combines the strength of faith with traditional Guatemalan arts. Baby Jesus is welcomed by Mary and Joseph, as well as the archangel Gabriel and the Three Wise Men wearing golden crowns. Guarded by a donkey and a cow, this nativity scene is endearing. Ramos carves each figurine by hand from pinewood that was weathered and dried during the summer months. The characters' florid orange robes and purple cloaks are painted by hand, and Gabriel's wings are detachable. Featuring 10 pieces, this nativity scene preserves a tradition that was brought to Guatemala in 1649.
