A blossoming lotus flower opens its exotic petal to reveal the presence of a young Buddha imparting his blessing. Buddha's presence is infinitely detailed and so is the flower that serves as a throne of divinity. Wayan Rendah hand-carves this spectacular statuette from ebony, its lustrous dark wood conferring an appearance of antiquity to this piece. The scriptures tell of a young Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) - it was prophesized he was set to become the greatest teacher of the world. When he became 29 years of age he left his wealthy family in pursuit of the truth and after six years he experienced the religious epiphanies that would become the basis of Buddhism: that a wholesome existence guided by proper understanding, contemplation, and concentration releases one from the painful cycle of life and death. Due to the natural origin of the material and the handcrafted process involved, please expect the possibility of a slight difference in the wood's grain as well as dimensions.
